Groundworkers in Essex

Having dug out a trench 250 meters so a new water feed could be ran off of the existing water main, one of our qualified plumbers cut into the existing water main and joined it to our new pipework.

The existing water main was of plastic construction (called alkathene) and was 40mm in diameter. Because of the rarity of the plastic pipe, and the unusual size, we had to cut out an section from the existing pipe about 500mm long. We then used 42mm copper pipe with plastic slip couplings to join the copper pipe to the existing. We braized a brass T section between the middle of the copper pipe which then reduced the size down to 25mm so we could connect to the new water main. A stopcock was also fitted so our new feed could be turned on and off independently. This work was completed and tested in approximately 20 minutes, resulting in very little disturbance for our client.
