Sash Window Refurbishment specialists in Essex

Often in older properties that are listed, it can be very awkward when thinking of modernising your house without spoiling the look of it. Sash Windows are a common problem. They look lovely but are drafty, rattly, difficult to use and often rotting away.

As apposed to the costly Hardwood replacement Sashes, Milbarn Construction have spent many years developing a procedure that allows the existing windows to be refurbished. Working with Window Care Systems ltd, who have produced a range of products that allow sections of rotted wood to be replaced, we can totally refurbish your windows and bring them back to a usuable, working, effective state, that look fantastic.

Some companys litterally samd down the existing sashes, cut out the rot and put filler in its place, nail on a draft excluder, give it a lick of paint and thats it. We completely remove your sash window, we remove the glass and strip the paint back to bare wood. We then splice in new sections of timber to replace the existing rotton timber, using the window care methods, and slowly start re building your sash. New glass is usually fitted, we have even fitted specialist double glazing that is only 9mm thick, enabling it to fit into the existing rebate.  The frame will get the same treatment too, completely stripped back and repaired where required. We supply complete new furniture, replace the sash cords and even calibrate the weights. Once the windows and frame are repainted, everything can go back together and our high quality draft proof system is installed at this stage too, and it works!

The entire process is very labour intensive, but the results are great, they bring back your sash windows to their former glory, infact they will be better than when they were first made.

The costs are not cheap, however they are dramatically cheaper than having hardwood replacements. We have also spoken to some house owners who opted for the slightly cheaper quotes from other companies, who’s work was far less thorough, and they have now wished they had spent a little more to get the windows finished to our high standards.

If you would like to arrange an appointment to discuss having your windows refurbished, don’t hesitate to contact us. We have a short dvd to show you the processes of the timber repair methods and also samples of the products used.
